This is a partner legal clinic operated by the Federal Bar Association for the Western District of Washington. King County Bar Association schedules clients for appointments for this clinic. Provides a free 30 minute consultation with an attorney on federal civil rights legal issues. *Most appointments via telephone with limited in-person availability in Seattle. Provides civil legal advocacy to youth primarily between 12-24 years old. TeamChild’s legal team works to secure community-based services, help youth access appropriate education, healthcare, mental/behavioral health resources, safe and stable housing, navigate school discipline, and works with youth incarcerated in the Juvenile Rehabilitation (JR) system. Advocacy efforts focus on education and school-related issues such as enrollment, school discipline and access to special education; securing safe and stable housing for youth; and helping clients access public benefits, including health care, mental health services, DDA and other support. Advocacy also includes post-conviction relief, including records sealing, restitution modifications, and assisting youth with reentry supports when returning to community from incarceration. Note: TeamChild does not provide criminal defense representation to youth or adults involved in the juvenile delinquency or adult criminal systems, nor does it offer family law representation, including child custody issues.

Provides a service officer who appears before the Veterans Administration rating board and assists the client in obtaining rightful benefits.  Use of the officer can substantially minimize the time required for processing.  Service officers also assist veterans with disabilities in preparing claims for service connected compensation, hospitalization, occupational training, education, insurance, or other benefits.  No assistance is available for Social Security claims.

Provides phone consultations to discuss topics related to a child's IEP or 504 plan including qualifying for services, access to services, discipline of students with IEP or 504 plan, failure to provide interpreters or translations, or discrimination.

Provides free 45-minute to 1-hour appointments with an attorney for advice on civil legal issues such as: consumer, finance/debt, employment, housing, benefits. Appointments are required. Clinics are currently telephonic. Attorneys at the clinic are not able to provide representation.

Helps people understand and receive services of Washington Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Washington State Department of Services for the Blind, Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation and Centers for Independent Living. Investigates questions and complaints with a client's vocational rehabilitation counselor. Assists clients in appealing decisions made by a counselor if negotiation fails. Teaches clients about their rights and protection under the law, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act. Also provides information and referral to additional resources.

Provides disability rights information, technical assistance for disability issues, general information about legal rights, strategies about how to become a stronger self-advocate, information sheets on a wide range of subjects to empower individuals with disabilities to better advocate for themselves, community education and training, and some legal services for disability rights violations. Focuses legal resources on systemic cases that will improve service systems for people with disabilities. Disability Rights Washington has attorneys and law student interns who provide Technical Assistance on specific information related to our ongoing systemic work and to people calling from treatment facilities. If you are calling about an education issue related to disability in school, Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) or foster care related issues, supported living and waiver services, or your rights as they relate to a treatment facility, we have appointments and can schedule you with staff. If you are a Social Security disability beneficiary under full retirement age experiencing a barrier to employment, including issues with paratransit, difficulty accessing job training and employment services, loss of ongoing employment supports, lack of access to assistive technology needed to work, or other issues that prevent you from getting or keeping employment, you can call and schedule an appointment with staff. Provides free legal advice and direct representation for public benefits cases with DSHS where benefits have been denied, reduced, overpaid or terminated. These cases include: - Basic Food/food stamps - TANF - ABD (formerly GAU/GAX/Disability Lifeline programs) - Housing and Essential Needs (HEN) Referral - WA Apple Health (Medicaid) - Medical assistance (including issues with prescription drugs, durable medical equipment, managed care programs, specific medical treatment/services) - Childcare - Emergency financial aid (including AREN, DCA and Refugee Cash Assistance) - Alien Emergency Medical Program - State long-term care cases (can only assist with issues of financial eligibility) - Medicare Savings Program

Multisystem Family Navigation, Special Education Coaching, Insurance Appeals Support: Offers coaching services to assist when self-advocacy and family navigation fall short in securing health care and special education services. These coaching services assist families in navigating health care and special education challenges effectively. Legislative Advocacy: Collaborates with and holds accountable health care and education service providers as well as legislators on laws and regulations that support equitable and comprehensive access to health care and education for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ASD/IDD).

Assists families in accessing services for persons with autism, including how to work through the state's advocacy system for people with disabilities or how to work with a school district for special educational programs. Educates families about autism and refers to community resources.
