Our ESL program is offered year-round in two increments: 10 weeks during the school year and 5 weeks over the summer. Twice a week, native English speaking and bilingual instructors gather with our clients to teach conversational English in context-focused classes. Classes emphasize social interaction and language skills for specific situations in a safe learning environment. Clients practice language useful for job-seeking and managing other life tasks. This runs hand-in-hand with our citizenship and naturalization classes that focus on American history, government, and social studies. Classes help students learn English to improve vocabulary and daily communication. In addition, students will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding about the American culture. Additionally, in our citizenship class, Vietnamese refugees, immigrants, and Vietnamese Americans assist with the application process, citizenship test and interview, while also strengthening their English skills.  The 10-week citizenship classes provide practical instruction in order to pass citizenship exams. Topics will vary, tailored to match the needs of the participants, and will include American history and government, civics and social responsibility. Each class provides at least one native English speaker and one bilingual English and Vietnamese speaker with clients, placing an emphasis on conversation practice and social interaction. Volunteer tutors serve as facilitators to help each client reach their particular goals.

Provides guidance and referrals to low-income immigrants and refugees living in King County who are in detention, facing removal or losing their immigration status.

Transition programs help non-English and limited English speakers understand and navigate American culture.   Programs include:   -  Crime prevention education -  Crime victim assistance -  Naturalization assistance   -  ESL classes

Helps participants prepare for their naturalization interview. Instruction includes reading, writing and questions covered on the civics exam.   Most classes are carried out in a group setting, although one-on-one sessions can be arranged.

Provides free ESL, citizenship and basic skills such as reading, writing, math and computer use classes and tutoring to adult learners. Helps learners prepare for the GED. Provides naturalization assistance to city of Seattle residents. Students enrolled in the program can receive job search assistance and individual tutoring as well.

We offer free classes for practicing English skills for daily life, work, and citizenship in our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes. Join one of our free English Circle conversation groups to practice with others learning English. Mango Languages is an interactive tool offers more than 70 languages, including English, for children and adults.

Our employment and adult education services connect community members with meaningful employment at livable wages and other opportunities to build critical skills. Employment case managers and economic empowerment coaches help set goals and viable steps to achieve them. We also team up with local community colleges and other partners to connect individuals to vocational training, internship programs, and help with job placement.

Helps seniors and families find the resources such as   -  Applying for benefits -  Job training -  Affordable housing -  Interpretation Also provides assistance in helping immigrants become U.S. citizens by doing a one-to-one session or small classes for the citizenship test as well as assisting in preparing the application form and needed supporting documents.   Assists in preparing the necessary paperwork needed for those who want to petition their family members.
