Washington State Department of Services for the Blind (DSB) works with individuals who are Blind, Deaf-Blind, or Low Vision so they can flourish in their homes, communities, and workplaces. DSB provides skills, training, and support to people of all ages to help them achieve educational, employment, or independent living goals. If you have a vision impairment that makes employment hard for you, you may be eligible for services to help you prepare for, obtain, maintain or advance in a job. Our training often covers: Skills for adapting to vision loss Orientation and mobility Assistive technology Job-seeking skills Talking about your disability in the workplace Employer expectations Communication and problem-solving

Advocates for the rights and needs of people who are deaf-blind.   Provides information and referral regarding deaf-blindness.   Links individuals who are deaf-blind with local skill-oriented and vocational rehabilitation services.   Provides consultation and other services to consumers, parents and service providers.   Determines eligibility for services at the Helen Keller National Center in New York.  

Contracts with agencies to provide employment services and supports to students as they transition from high school to adult services. Supports students in obtaining community based employment (minimum wage or better) prior to exciting school services.

Offers a temporary job skills training and placement program for vocationally impaired people and people with disabilities.   Hires associates to work in its facilities, and offers a variety of training opportunities by partnering with local businesses.   After completing the program, clients may be eligible for further training and education opportunities.

Offers support services for adults living with mental illness. Offers pre-employment day program where members work side-by-side with staff to develop work skills, self-confidence, strengths and talents. Technology and equipment is available for members to learn and work on. Provides a commercial kitchen where members prepare meals available to members and staff for a small fee. Members can also apply for employment in the community through the programs of HERO House NW. There are three different programs of employment including: -Transitional Employment Program (part-time, time-limited for members just entering or returning to paid employment; includes on-site support, training and coverage) -Supported Employment Program (time unlimited, paid positions in the community with on-site supports and training provided by HERO House NW. -Independent Employment Program (where members work in competitive positions independently of HERO House NW) and HERO House NW employment supports. HERO House NW Programs also provides an extensive social program where members join together for picnics, bingo, museum tours, festivals, sports and games.

Participants rotate through work centers which may include a variety of work that is performed sitting or standing. Participants gain information on attendance and punctuality, motivation, communication, getting along with others, ability to accept feedback, ability to take responsibility, work ethic, ability to retain instructions, work quality, productivity, and personal appearance. Participants will be connected to a mentor and counselor to assist them through the progression of their training. Participants are paid minimum wage while in training. Specialists will assist participants with job placement and continue follow-up for three months after training has ended.

Supports adults and young adults with disabilities in securing and maintaining competitive employment in the community.   Services provided include a vocational profile, work ability assessment, job development, job placement and on-the-job training.   Employment counselors assist with transportation, personal care, assistive technology, workplace support and long-term career goals.   Serves as an Alternate Provider to DSHS - Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for job search assistance for people with disabilities.

Program provides job training for people with disabilities.   Assessments are available to identify any potential barriers to training before training begins. Evaluations are provided for clients who are unsure of their job skills or interests. Counselors are available to assist in choosing the best training program for each individual.   Classes offered are   -  Typing/10-key -  Data entry - Microsoft Office -  Accounting -  Business English and math -  Medical terminology -  Billing and coding -  Dispatching.    Classes are three to two years in length. Students learn at their own pace. Students who miss a scheduled class day can add that day onto the end of training.   Students may learn at home taking online courses using the computer provided by this agency. At the end of training, job placement specialists are available to assist with resume writing and interview coaching.

Helps people with disabilities to prepare for, obtain and retain employment. Vocational rehabilitation programs are tailored to each individual. DVR works in partnership with the community and businesses to develop employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Provides a comprehensive outpatient mental health program. Case managers, psychiatrists and nurses work with single adults, most of whom are or have been homeless, in assisting them in their journey towards recovery. This includes help with obtaining and maintaining housing, improving clinical and social stability and enriching their level of independence and self-sufficiency. Services are provided in DESC offices, at client homes and elsewhere in the county such as shelters, hospitals, jails and wherever else clients’ lives take them. Services include the following: - Case management - Psychiatric services - Counseling - Therapy - Representative payee services - For some clients, assistance in obtaining employment or referral to vocational service programs SAGE services are licensed under the Washington State Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery and are provided under contract with King County Behavioral Health and Recovery Division. Services are provided within a Recovery model.

Provides assessments, on-the-job training, job development and ongoing long-term support for adults with disabilities. Support individuals through the entire employment process. Services include: - Community based assessments - Trial work assessments - Job placement services - Retentions and intensive trainings

Provides career coaching, self-sufficiency, financial planning/benefits counseling and asset development services.   Services are tailored to individual needs of each client and focus on developing long-term economic self-sufficiency.   Services include   -  Career guidance and planning -  Goal setting -  Skills assessment and job training -  Job placement -  Job coaching -  Help with support services such as work clothing and equipment or licenses -  Developing a personal budget -  Access to credit repair and debt repayment assistance -  Education about tax credits for working families -  Access to community resources -  Assistance with food costs and transportation

Provides Medicaid recipients with behavioral or physical health issues non-tangible person-centered supportive services to connect to and maintain employment. Supports can include: - Assessing for the right job fit - Interview coaching - Establishing helpful routines - Coordination with employer for on-going supports
